Scheduled for April 25th in the Houston area, the annual event brings together students and adults who travel more than 8, miles across Texas to collaborate and celebrate achievement in STEM, and to connect with STEM professionals and other volunteers.

Privacy Policy Terms of Use Accessibility.The large assemblies that we have had since the beginning of the competition are not feasible in these circumstances, so the events previously planned at Stanford University Northern California and Cal Baptist University Southern California have been cancelled, and National had determined that we will not be able to have the National competition, either.

At the Chapter level, we are involved primarily in putting on the Chapter Competition part of the Competition Series. The other activities National Math Club and Math Video Challenge offer different types of learning experiences, so be sure to check those out on the National website.

Winners from the Chapter competitions advanced to the State Competition. The National team is made up of the top scoring individuals from the results of the State competitions. The four Chapters formed this year splitting up the previous Santa Clara Valley Chapter had 11 teams 4 students per team and 8 additional individuals qualify for the event.

The comparison with the Southern California scores found Hopkins on top of the entire state, so the coach of the Nationals team was Peta-Gaye Robinson, coach of Hopkins.

Individually, the new chapters took 10 of the top 11 spots. Congratulations to all our participants on a great showing! The competition was Saturday February 16,with 12 local schools competing. William Hopkins Junior High School's team took the top team slot, with 4 of the top 5 individual scores.

William Chen took first place, winning a tiebreaker over fellow Hopkins' student Chris Ge. Both of them had perfect individual scores in the written rounds. Stratford School Fremont and Horner Junior High finished 2nd and 3rd in the team competition, earning qualifying spots to advance to the State Competition in March. Complete results are in file Attached see below. The competition was also Saturday February 16,featuring students from 13 schools.

The Harker School's team took the top team slot, and 3 of the top 5 individual places. The competition was Saturday February 9,first up of our 4 new chapters. This year's competition included 10 of the top schools in the area.

MATHCOUNTS Competition Results

Their impressive efforts all 4 students placing in the top 25 individually of the competitors led California to a 2nd place team finish. Congratulations to all the team members! The complete published results are included in attachment below, with Santa Clara Valley students highlighted.

A Tiebreaker Round was given to the top students to determine the final places. In the written competition, Jack placed 10th and Kevin Li of Pleasanton Diablo Chapter placed 11th the top 12 of the competitors qualify for the Countdown Round. The team not only had these high individual scores, but also logged a perfect score in the Team Round to take third place behind Texas and New Jersey teams. The competitors included 6th, 7th, and 8th grade representatives from 12 Chapters, coming from as far north as the Oregon border and south to the Fresno area.

The format was the same as the Chapter competition, with written individual and team rounds, but the problems were significantly tougher. Overall, 22 of the top 47 scorers from a total of participants were from the Santa Clara Valley competition. Special prizes were awarded to top scoring Boy and Girl from each grade, with David Hu of Miller claiming the prize for top scoring 8th grade boy, and Kelly Cui of Bret Harte San Jose scoring best amongst 8th grade girls.Please read the following instructions for participants.

2016 Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition

Protests must be made on-site within 30 minutes of the posting of questions and answers immediately following each round. The beginning of the next round will not be delayed until after the posting period for questions and answers from the previous round.

Decisions of the protest committee are final, and cannot be appealed. Decisions will not require, under any circumstances, that a fifth individual be placed on a state team. Immediately following each round, exam questions and answers for that round should be posted for review by coaches as a courtesy. Please do not copy or record Questions and Answers. These materials should remain posted for 30 minutes. Contestants' problem sheets and answers are confidential and may not be viewed or distributed to coaches, parents, or other individuals.

Students' problem sheets become the property of NSPE chapters and state societies. Chapters and states should hold these items for 90 days following the competition at which time all materials should be destroyed. Single copies of blank examination materials and answer keys may be distributed to coaches upon written request on or after check with the State MathCounts office for dates. The state team will consist of the top four individuals having the highest individual scores.

Should one of the top four individuals not be able to attend the National Competition, the fifth highest individual scorer will be eligible to attend. The state team coach will be the coach of the top School Team.

Your T-shirt must be worn during the photo session. MathCounts Rules and Procedures A. General Rules Students are permitted to use calculators in the Team and Target Rounds at all levels of competition. NOTE: Calculators are not provided; students are to bring a non-programmable calculator, or purchase one the day of the competition, see school handbook for regulations. Slide rules instead of calculators are also permitted during the Team and Target Rounds.

Other notes and reference material are not permitted. Scratch paper will be provided. Listen carefully to the initial directions. If you need further clarification during the sessions, raise your hand immediately and wait for a proctor to come to your desk.The Northern California State Competition date and location will be announced at a later date.

This California-specific term has been created to easily identify this type of competitor. Highest Scoring School Teams advance as follows:.

No more than one additional team per chapter is allowed to advance in this manner. Advancing Teams will be the top scoring Teams based on overall Team scores at the Chapter Competition.

Independents will be the top scoring competitors at the Chapter Competition based on Sprint and Target Round scoreswho are not on an advancing School Team. Independents may have been registered as a school Team Member or an Individual. Regardless of registration status at the chapter level, Independents will compete only in the Sprint and Target Rounds at the State Competition, and the Countdown Round if. The state reserves the right to place a cap on the total number of students at the State Competition at participants statewide.

Because the approximate number of competitors is not available until final registration has been completed, the State Coordinator will make any necessary adjustments to the above described advancement numbers and notify all chapter coordinators at that time. Independents will participate in the Sprint and Target rounds only. Based on these results, they will be eligible to qualify for the Countdown Round.


Independents will also be eligible for individual competitor awards and advancement to the national competition. That position, once vacated, will be forfeited. Alternates and Unofficial Competitors Students that participated as alternates or unofficial competitors at the Chapter Competition are not eligible to advance to the State Competition. Alternates and unofficial competitors will not be seated at the State Competition.

Such a request must be submitted in writing to the State Coordinator by February Exceptions to this rule will be considered by the State Coordinator on a case by case basis.No further state events will be held. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution regarding the outbreak, because the safety and well-being of our Mathletes, coaches, and other volunteers are our top priority.

You will not be permitted to communicate with the contestants until completion of the final round. Lunch will be provided free of charge for all registered Mathletes, coaches and registered volunteers.

Lunch is not provided for parents. You are highly encouraged to watch the exciting Countdown Round in the afternoon. The Awards Ceremony will follow the Countdown Round. Student Participation Certificates and scores will be available in the lobby immediately following the awards ceremony.
